28 Dec Coasters in Restaurants to Gather Community Feedback About Downtown Lewiston
Coasters asking community members for their opinion about downtown Lewiston are being distributed to restaurants in the Lewis Clark Valley.
On the reverse, each coaster features one of fourteen different questions about downtown Lewiston’s business mix, transportation pattern, and potential for residential and commercial development. The anonymous responses will be used by the consulting team to develop the Lewiston Downtown Master Plan.
“We’re developing a Downtown Master Plan that is rooted in a firm understanding of the downtown economy and underpinned by an extensive round of citizen engagement,” wrote Courtney Kramer, Executive Director for Beautiful Downtown Lewiston Revitalization Corporation (BDL), in a press release. “The coasters are a low-key way for us to gather information at places where community members are already gathered. They’re fun, and we’re hoping they prompt conversation about downtown Lewiston.”
BDL is administering the development of the Lewiston Downtown Master Plan on behalf of the community and in partnership with the City of Lewiston. The citizen engagement coasters are a result of an “Our Town” grant awarded to BDL by the National Endowment for the Arts, which provides funding for artist-led citizen engagement in the master planning process.
“The coaster designs are so much more engaging than I would have come up with,” wrote Kramer.
Coasters will be on tables during regular service hours at:
- Blue Lantern Coffee House & Wine Bar, 326 Main Street in Lewiston
- Imua Hawaiian Style Restaurant, 800 Main Street in Lewiston
- Vine 46 Wine Tasting Room, 800 Main Street in Lewiston
- Jollymore’s: A Dining Experience, 1516 Main Street in Lewiston
- Main Street Grill, 625 Main Street in Lewiston
- Mystic Café, 1303 Main Street in Lewiston
- Brava’s Restaurant, 504 Main Street in Lewiston
Volunteers are working to deploy the coasters at events where people gather, like civic group meetings, bingo nights, and trivia nights in January, February, and March.
