First Step 4 LIFE is going to be working in conjunction with STBDP – Small Town Big Dream Productions, Beautiful Downtown Lewiston, The Roxy and Nick Hasselstrom, and The Center for Arts and History to produce Next to Normal – An unflinching look at a suburban family struggling with the effects of mental illness. This project has brought together six different entities willing to loan their time and talent to support a project they believe will have a measurable positive impact on our community.
Next to Normal, with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt, explores how one suburban household copes with crisis and mental illness. Winner of three 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Score and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, Next to Normal was also chosen as “one of the year’s ten best shows” by critics around the country, including The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone and The New York Times.
This production will star 6 of this community’s finest performers, including Amy Stout, Michael Keene, Ethan Smith, Becci Tank, Brady Ross-Minton and Eric Goodwin, and will play at the newly renovated Roxy on Main Street, May 17 – 20 for 5 performances. We have a complete live orchestra of talented musicians and are thrilled to bring this level of talent into downtown Lewiston. Most of the set materials, labor and lighting and sound equipment are being donated for the production, so that the majority of the profits will be donated to First Step 4 LIFE.
The Center for Arts and History will be providing a Recovery Art Exhibit, and cast members, area therapists, First Step 4 LIFE and Quality Behavioral Health will be participating in talk back sessions after matinee performances with the cast and audience after designated shows, and making information and resource materials available to the audience. Quality Behavioral Health will also contribute materials to help support the awareness of resources.
Join us for a VIP reception from 6:30 – 7:30 PM at Ampersand Oil & Vinegar Tap House, 704 Main Street on Opening Night, May 17. Tickets are $35 and include a ticket to the opening night performance of Next to Normal, hors d’oeuvres and one glass of wine or beer. Additional wine or beer available for purchase.
