Beautiful Downtown Lewiston (BDL) invites business owners, entrepreneurs, downtown property owners, prospective investors and curious community members to participate in the Properties with Possibilities Tour and Small Business Seminar on Thursday, May 3.
“We specifically planned this event to coincide with the Small Business Administration’s Small Business Week (April 29 to May 5) and in May, which is national historic preservation month,” said Courtney Kramer, BDL Executive Director. “Small businesses and historic preservation basically sums up our mission statement,” added Kramer.
Tour tickets are free for BDL members and $20 for the public. Tour tickets must be purchased in advance and are available on BDL’s website:
The Properties with Possibilities Tour will begin at 8:30 AM and includes a walking tour of 12 properties in varying stages of rehabilitation which are available for rent or purchase for commercial purposes. Tour participants should meet at Blue Lantern Coffee House, 326 Main Street.
“The Properties with Possibilities Tour and Small Business Seminar are part of our business recruitment efforts,” Kramer said. “Private investors have about 39,000 square feet of commercial space under construction in downtown Lewiston right now, and we’re interested in connecting with entrepreneurs and successful business owners to invite them to locate downtown.”
Newbury Square, at 800 Main Street, will be one of the spaces shown off during the tour. Rehabilitation of the building, which has been vacant for over 15 years, includes seven main floor commercial suites and basement office spaces. About half of the spaces have been pre-leased.
A sample of other properties on the tour includes:
- 111 Main Street, “Lewis Clark Hotel”: Ground floor rehabilitation of public spaces are happening this summer and now leasing ground floor commercial spaces.
- 609 Main Street, “International Order of Oddfellows Building”: Under construction by Landmark Property Group, and includes 10 upstairs apartments and one ground floor commercial space of about 3,000 square feet
- 610 Main Street, “Penny Lane”: In final design drawings, with construction to begin in late summer on 7-10 ground floor commercial suites of varying sizes and 12 upstairs apartments to be completed in mid-2019
- 812 & 814 Main Street: New façade project to begin this summer, two commercial spaces of 1,800 square feet each
Walking tour participants are advised that closed toed shoes are recommended and not all properties on the tour are accessible to persons with disabilities.
“The goal is to give people a chance to explore the possibilities in downtown Lewiston in a low-key manner,” said Courtney Kramer, Executive Director. “It’s always good to bring people together and let the ideas flow.”

After the Properties Tour, the group will gather for lunch, where keynote speaker Jaynie Bentz will present the Port of Lewiston’s investments in “dark fiber” high-speed internet conduit in downtown Lewiston and it’s usefulness for small businesses. Ticket prices include the luncheon.
Following the tour, seminar speakers will discuss the unique opportunities for business development in a downtown district. The Seminars will be held at the Small Business Development Center’s conference room, 406 Main Street.
Mike Springs, with Chief Springs Fire and Irons Brew Pub, will talk about their experience owning and operating a brewery and pub in Dayton, WA. “We’ve been trying to recruit a brewery to downtown Lewiston for about five years,” noted Kramer. “I’m interested in learning what makes Chief Springs’ successful.”
The second speaker, Keely Garrity, owns Ampersand Oil & Vinegar Tap House, which began in Moscow and opened a Lewiston location in late 2016. Garrity will speak about her experience running her businesses in two locations in the Quad Cities.
